Daybreak Concerto

This is amongst the two very best still lifes I have ever painted.

Residing for a winter in Wisconsin I had access to some Danish antiques. I arranged them with lighting coming from a window on the left. I included my friends flute, arranged it and marked the spot so they could remove it and play it occasionally and return it to the same spot later.

An antique mirror on the left reveals the windowsill and the snowy view outside. The music sheet reveals a portion of Telemann’s flute concerto, a favorite of mine. The unusual “scissors” shaped like a stork is for picking up stamps.

Iola Wisconsin, where I resided, was known for publishing an important book of stamp collecting.
