We Are The Land

I envisioned the King and Queen together

Ulupalakua Maui has one of the most amazing views on the island and this was the view from my house.

Indigenous Hawaiian people believe they are the land, and this is the theme of the painting. Ancient Hawaiian woodcarvings float in a circle around them. Ghostly Hawaiian Hula dancers are on the left. In the right foreground Taro plants can be seen, the root of which is an important food source for the Hawaiians.

The King wears a feathered helmet and Cape, the Queen has a feathered head Lei and a whalebone pendant. The pile of rocks is a remnant of an ancient heiau or temple.
